Tell Your Story to the Land

First, cross a threshold.

Then, wander until you find a place that feels caring and loving. This might take a while. Don’t try to make it so. Really wait until you encounter a place that gives you a sense of comfort.

Take this place in with all of your senses.

What do you see? hear? smell? What emotions are present for you here? Tell the place, OUT LOUD, what you are noticing. What does your imagination say about this place? Example: “I notice how the bushes close in together here, creating this shaded space. It feels safe, as if I could curl up here and be protected.”

Listen for any response from the place.

Ask the place if it would be willing to hear and hold your story, to help you honor it, and find some comfort.

Listen for the answer.

If it feels like a yes, tell this place something of what you’ve been going through. Perhaps how it started, or the hardest part about it or what you’ve had to give up, or what your fears are. Let your feelings move through you as you speak. (If the place said no, you can continue to hang out here describing what you see/hear/ notice and how it makes you feel.)

When you feel complete, stop talking and listen.

Notice the beings around you. What’s happening with the wind or birds or trees or ants? Take them in. Notice any feelings or memories that arise. You might share them with the place.

Let your conversation go on as long as you’d like.

Offer the place thanks before you part.
